Living on the Gold Coast has its many perks. We are known for and enjoy almost year-round sunshine and warm weather. However, the tropical weather experienced on the Gold Coast does mean that between January and March, tropical cyclones are very possible.
Unfortunately, because of this, some home insurers will no longer touch parts of the Gold Coast, due to some areas being in designated flood zones or ‘red-zones.’
Want to know if you’re at risk of flooding and other climate specific risks, and what insurance packages would be best suited for you?

Determine your risk with free online risk calculators
Steadfast, Australia’s largest general insurance broker network, provides products and services to Crest Insurance, a team of Gold Coast boutique general insurance specialists.
Recently, they launched the Steadfast Flood Risk Tracker tool which provides residents and business owners the ability to assess the likelihood of a specified address flooding, be it residential or commercial, and river or coastal flooding.
How does it work?
- Simply type in the address to see the results, don’t worry, they won’t store your details and you won’t be contacted.
- The subsequent hazard risks will then show at the entered address as low risk, moderate risk or high-risk grades.
Note that underlying data is regularly updating which means that results can change.
This tool is free of charge to both businesses and consumers. So, why not go ahead and check it out for yourself?
Sum Insured Home Contents Calculator and Cordell Sum Share Calculator powered by CoreLogic are other great online (and free) calculators that assess the costs involved with replacing your home contents and estimated cost to rebuild your home.
Are you or your home at risk?
As touched on earlier, some insurance companies are unwilling to quote properties in the Gold Coast designated flood zone. This includes properties on Harris Court in Currumbin Waters.
What is a ‘red zone?’
- These are considered areas where home insurance becomes prohibitively expensive due to the high risk of natural disaster or insurers declining to offer coverage at all.
It’s starting to look like getting or renewing insurance in parts of the Gold Coast is unavailable or unaffordable due to flood risks.
It shouldn’t have to be this way. Talk to your Gold Coast insurance broker about finding a good insurance deal, regardless of your location on the Gold Coast.
